    Time Event
    6:51p
    Virgin River
I'm back from eight days of work on the Virgin River in Nevada. We chased down a plant called camel thorn that is invading the area.

I've had a request to talk a bit about what things look like here, so that's what I'll write about this time:

This is a dry environment. There are few plants around, and large areas of barren rock, sand, and dirt between them. However, I work near rivers fairly often, where those same plants grow much closer together and are cluttered with native and non-native species. All of this is in a fairly drastic topography. I scramble around trying to find ways up and down steep embankments, that are only standing because the area has little rainfall to erode away the sediments. Usually, I have a backpack sprayer on my back, so trying not to spill on my neck can be interesting.

I have seven days off right now, due to Veteran's Day, and will then be on my way to Canyonlands NP for eight days and seven nights of work and camping. It should be fun, and I'm looking forward to it, and the cooler temperatures associated with the trip.
